Preparing oneself for a successful CPHQ exam experience is hard, often very hard work and certainly not always fun. But having gone through the process and having passed the exam (May 2025) I must admit I learned a lot of new stuff. As a result, I feel more intellectually enriched as a surveyor.

Following is a presentation and discussion of:

a) study materials I used

b) my suggestions as a study guide

c) recommended preparation time

I have attempted to present this information in a way that both clinicians and non-clinical healthcare professionals (e.g., Life Safety/Facilities engineers, administrators) may benefit.

Additionally, I include herein numerous, valuable tips or “pearls” I learned during my successful test prep.
